Mystical Secrets of Music

Workshop and Concert

An interactive and informative workshop to deepen your knowledge of sound and music for both musicians and non-musicians.

Is music the key to the cosmos? What songs are played on a monochord? How did Orpheus charm the plants, animals and nearly overcome death? How does the number seven feel different from the number twelve? Which vowel sound stimulates your third eye?

This interactive and informative workshop will deepen your knowledge of music and sound. It can be enjoyed by both musicians and non-musicians. Participatory exercises alternate with lecture/demonstrations to teach chakra toning , the music of the spheres, the Pythagorean legacy, and drumming the Four Elements.

Learn how to connect to the cosmos through music. Here are some of the interesting things you will learn...

The Music of the Spheres

Learn how the laws of sound and music relate to the Cosmos. We are part of the Cosmos and can begin to understand it by understanding laws that reach from Above to Below. Hear recordings of the actual sounds of interplanetary space!

Orpheus, Pythagoras and Friends

The god Hermes invented the lyre, but Orpheus was its greatest player. Pythagoras was a charismatic mystic who gave the Western world some of it's first theories about music. Robert Fludd perfected his ideas of the cosmic octave during the renaissance. Learn about some of the real and mythological personalities who still influence musicians and mystics, even today

Toning the Chakras

The Chakras are the centers located in specific locations of the human physical and energetic body. We will use our own voices through simple tones to connect to and vitalize the Chakras. We will also learn about corresponding colors, stones and planets to help us connect to universal energies.

Drumming the Elements

Learn the 4 basic strokes of the Frame Drum that coorespond to the 4 elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air. The Frame Drum is one of the world's oldest instruments, used in ancient and modern times by priestesses and shamans. Learn the secrets of entrainment and play a 4 part group rhythm to honor the 4 elements.

The Concert

Hobbyhorse plays adventurous folk/rock with songs that tell stories inspired by world mythology, love and the spirit. Ancient Mythology comes alive with an entertaining mix of orignal songs and storytelling, based upon myths from around the world.

A Hobbyhorse show is a little different from the usual, with Annie's poetic lyrics telling timeless stories and Phil's intricate arrangements. Hobbyhorse plays together so seamlessly that you often can’t tell which one of us is playing which guitar part. Their music is in the spirit of experimentation and the expansion of the imagination. Audiences are moved and they respond - we often end up in memorable conversations with the audience after the show, discussing music, mythology and other interesting subjects.
